April 05, 2013 Energy Air Share this post What a great day for a groundbreaking ceremony! Members of the Kulp family joined Building Homes for Heroes on Tuesday as they celebrated the groundbreaking for the future home of Army Specialist B.J. Jackson and his family in the NorthLake Park community of Lake Nona in Orlando. Attendees, including the construction team, corporate sponsors, community supporters and the students and faculty of NorthLake Park Community School, were moved by the positive and motivational words Jackson spoke as he told his story and thanked all of the supporters. Specialist Jackson, a member of the Army National Guard, was injured in Iraq when a vehicle he was driving struck a land mine. He lost both legs and suffered severe burns on his arms, legs and back. He spent nearly two months in the post burn unit. Specialist Jackson was awarded the Purple Heart. Jackson’s wife, Abby, and their six children were also there to celebrate the groundbreaking. Guests enjoyed a musical performance from the children of Northlake Park Community School. Energy Air is proud to be a supporter of Building Homes for Heroes and the men and women who serve our nation. This is the second home Energy Air has been a part of with Building Homes for Heroes. Army Sergeant Joel Tavera moved into his new home with his family in December 2011. Tavera was severely injured in 2008 when the Humvee he was riding in Iraq was hit by five rockets.
