  • Construction Coming to a Close at Faith Assembly of God Orlando

    Energy Air

The Energy Air team is nearing completion of the HVAC system at the new Faith Assembly of God church in Orlando. We are currently performing equipment start-up and finishing trim-out of the 290,000 square foot facility.

This design-build project began when the owner’s representative had budgeting issues with the original design. Energy Air was brought on board to team with the original, out-of-state engineer for the design-build HVAC scope.

The project includes a main classroom building, two, three-story structures including the new sanctuary and wedding chapel, and a round rotunda that connects all three buildings; a whopping six acres of conditioned space!

At the request of the general contractor, the Energy Air design-build team revised the system using smaller, more cost-effective equipment and minimized the overall construction process.

The return air system was redesigned in order to eliminate the corridor-rated ceiling requirement, providing substantial savings to the owner. The new system eliminated numerous fire-smoke dampers by locating units on each side of the corridor, minimizing penetrations through the rated corridor walls.

    Cost Savings

    • We proposed a valuable VE option to eliminate return air plenums and used fiberglass return and fiberglass low pressure ductwork.
    • A tremendous amount of electrical, fire alarm, drywall and mechanical savings was achieved with the elimination of fire-smoke dampers.
    • The redesign utilized smaller, less load-bearing roof top unit sizes (50-ton to 5-ton), allowing for a reduction in structural requirements.
    • Upfront coordination minimized the number of constructability change orders.

    Mechanical contract: Approximately $2 million

Scope: Design-build of HVAC system for approximately 290,000 square feet including the main classroom building, two, three-story structures and a round rotunda connecting all three buildings for a local Orlando church.

    Engineer: Pond Creek Designs

Owner’s Rep / GC: Sonlight Construction
