Maitland Summit III, a LEED Gold office building in Maitland, Fla., was submitted in the $1 million to $5 million commercial building category and will receive an Eagle award, the highest award given. CKS Packaging Plant, a bottling facility in Orlando, Fla., will receive an Award of Merit for its entry in the $1 million to $5 million industrial project category. Companies will be presented with awards at the Excellence in Construction awards banquet being held on October 23, 2010 at the JW Marriott in Orlando. Each year the Central Florida Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc., sponsors the Excellence in Construction competition for commercial and industrial contractors with entries in as many as 50 categories. The ABC Excellence in Construction Awards competition was established to recognize the outstanding projects built by the general contractor and craft trade contractor members of ABC. The association believes such recognition will bring about a greater community and industry awareness of the quality and craftsmanship of work produced by merit shop contractors and their employees. Energy Air submitted Maitland Summit III and CKS Packaging Plant in the subcontractor category for the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) scope performed for both projects. Excellence in Construction Award entries are judged by a site visit of the project as well as a written narrative. The panel of judges represents a cross-section of the industry, including local design professionals. Projects are judged based on execution of design, craftsmanship, attention to detail, proper installation, evidence of extraordinary effort, owner satisfaction and other considerations. The total number of awards presented each year varies based on the number of entries submitted, the overall scores of each project and the competition within each category. Awards for 2010 include 120 Eagle Awards, 58 Awards of Merit and seven Honorable Mentions. Energy Air has received more than 35 awards from ABC, including eight Awards of Merit, three Eagle Awards and one honorable mention for Excellence in Construction entries.
