Which HVAC System is Right for Me?

Updated: Feb 10, 2023

Whether you’re installing an HVAC system in your home for the first time or it’s time to replace your old system, it’s important to know which system is best for you. There are a variety of makes and models of HVAC systems on the market, all varying in price, energy-efficiency, power capabilities and other special features. If you’re not sure which system is right for you, here are three things to consider, which will help guide you through the process.

1. Your Budget

One of the most important factors to consider when buying a new HVAC system is your budget. Even lower-end HVAC systems aren’t exactly inexpensive, so your budget should be reasonable for the equipment that you need to purchase. You may also want to consider air conditioning specials, rebates, AC financing plans and tax deductions to make your purchase more affordable for you.

2. Your Energy Efficiency Needs

Another factor to think about is energy efficiency. Your HVAC system will be one of the largest sources of energy consumption in your home for years to come, so investing in a more energy-efficient model now could save you money on energy bills later. All HVAC systems sold today are rated on a scale, or have what is called a SEER rating. New systems sold today are required to have a SEER rating of at least 13. While you won’t necessarily benefit from having the highest SEER rating available, keep in mind that the higher the SEER rating, the more energy efficient the system will be.

3. The Size of Your Home

The amount of space that you need your HVAC system to service will also play a role in which system is best for your home. Not all HVAC systems are created equal, and some won’t be appropriate for every home.
